If you’re an Avenger’s fan looking for an action figure of Hawkeye in the 6-7inch scale, you have two options: Hasbro has put out a Hawkeye in their Wal-Mart exclusive Avenger’s line and the Diamond Select version reviewed here. Let me say that the Hasbro version isn’t bad and does feature Hawkeye’s cool sunglasses, but if you’re looking for the best figure to display on your shelf, the Diamond Select version wins hands down. (If you’re a really big fan, you could always buy both). I’m more of a DC fan myself, so other than my Marvel Universe figures, my Marvel shelf is quite lacking. I’m hoping to improve that by picking up the Avenger’s figures from Diamond Select Toys’ Marvel Select line, and Hawkeye is the first member of my team. Here’s my thoughts on why Hawkeye hits the target:

    The facts:
Articulation- peg/hinge ball jointed ankles, swivel calves, double jointed knees, swivel thighs, peg/hinge ball jointed hips, mid torso ball joint, peg/hinge ball jointed shoulders, bicep swivels, elbow joints, peg/hinge ball joined wrists, limited ball jointed head.

Accessories- Bow, 1 arrow, large, structural diorama.

    Positives:

*The Jeremy Renner likeness on Hawkeye here is excellent! I think most anyone could look at this guy and know who he is. Diamond Select did an excellent job here. The whole figure is nicely sculpted with all of the appropriate costume details, straps, and textures.

*This guy’s pretty well articulated. You’re going to be able to get some very nice archery poses out of him.

*The diorama base is huge! It’s bigger than Hawkeye. I love any diorama pieces included with a figure, and this one’s a nice one. I’m not sure I remember it from a specific scene in the film, but it appears to be an ornate building railing. Apparently, this is only half of the piece and the other half is included with an upcoming Chitauri figure. Still, by itself it looks great to stand behind Hawkeye.

    Negatives:

*I would have loved if Hawkeye had come with a second head with his trademark sunglasses. This really isn’t a weakness of the figure, just something I miss.

*The ankle joints were really tight on my figure. Tight joints are a good thing, but be careful getting these loose.

*I wish the bow had a string or something with it. It seems to be a pretty common due to safety restrictions that action figures don’t come with strung bows these days, but I still find it lame when a collectible marketed towards adults suffers because of something like this.

Overall: Diamond Select did an excellent job on Hawkeye. Whether you’re adding him to a larger display or just starting to build your Avengers collection, he’s a worthwhile addition. His articulation, sculpting, and huge display piece really give him an edge over many other action figures in the 6-7 inch scale today.

So of all the Marvel Select Avengers figures to come out for the movie line, I have been waiting for this guy the most. Now my Avengers Marvel Select display is complete! This is a very nice figure to go along with the other Avengers. It does have its minor downsides though.

    Detail & Paint Apps:
The detail on him is pretty nice and accurate to the movie for the most part. His face sculpt looks great. I wish they had included the detail of his archery forearm piece on his right arm. His quiver has good detail and has arrows molded into it, however, it is mounted to his back and faces the wrong way. Hawkeye uses his left hand to grab arrows but the quiver is over the right shoulder. Paint apps on him are pretty nice, although (like most Marvel Selects) it can chip a bit, especially in his arms and hands when you move them around too much at first and try and get his bow into his hand to hold. Most of the paint chips occur on the underarm shoulder joints moving in and out.

    Articulation:
Articulation on this guy is pretty good. He has the Marvel Legends type legs, which is awesome (with a pivot ankle!). Wish his head could look up more though and I wish it was easier to get him into a bow and arrow holding position with his arms.

    Accessories:
He comes with his bow and one loose arrow. However, the bow does not come with a string and the arrow is pretty hard to get him to hold without using some sort of band to hold it in place in his left hand (the correct hand to use). It also comes with a base piece that resembles a side rail of a building.

Overall, this is a nice figure and looks great with the other Avengers! I would highly recommend this guy if you see him or pick him up here at Amazon!

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

I bought this for my 4-year old to go with his other Avengers toys. It is not as tall as the others, which bothers him. The arrows on his back came off and the bow broke in half within the first day of regular play. I would not recommend buying this as a play item, would be best left on a shelf.
