(UPDATE: Bugs are fixed!) Amazing game., May 29, 2015

    Updated Review:
(09/04/2015) Square Enix has finally patched the bugs previously mentioned in my review! Link: http://eu.square-enix.com/en/blog/final-fantasy-xx-2-hd-remaster-ps4-patch-update-0

As I stated before I would re-evaluate the review once they fixed the bugs. Here it is:

This game is an amazing game, it has a great turn-based battle system, flexible sphere leveling system, unique characters, side quests, and the best part, a rich, in depth story. +200 hours easily. FFX is a staple game in the Final Fantasy series and I think it is a game that anyone who enjoys RPGs needs to play. FFX-2 is also a really good game, but without giving anything away, the story might put people off.

Overall this is a perfect score for me and in the top 10 games I’ve ever played.

    Old Review! No longer relevant:
There are two pretty serious bugs in the PS4 version right now that affect anyone who bought the game. For me and a lot of other players these are game breaking bugs and makes the game unplayable until they are fixed. I’m putting this review up to let people know about them, and you can decide how important the bugs are to you. Again, these only affect the PS4 version.

Once these bugs are fixed I will update my rating to be 5 stars because without these bugs this game is awesome, it has a great battle system, sphere grid leveling system, amazing story, unforgettable characters, so many things to do, 200+ hours.

Here’s the first major bug: The RNG is broken in the PS4 version of this game. This means that if you die against a boss and have to restart the game the boss will do the same exact attacks for the same damage no matter how many times you die, this makes the fights very predictable and therefore easy since you know what is going to come next guaranteed. This same RNG bug also affects random enemy encounters, for normal enemies if you restart the game you will get the same enemies in the same order, and they will do the same attacks, for the same damage, no matter what. Again this makes them very easy and predictable. The RNG bug reportedly also affects drops, but I didn’t play enough to find out.

Second major bug: The background music will restart from the beginning of the track after every enemy encounter so you are stuck in a constant loop of the first 10 seconds of the song. Very frustrating for a game with such an amazing soundtrack.

Like I said in the beginning, this is an amazing game without the bugs, easily on my top 5 games of all time, I’m positive they will eventually patch the game to fix the bugs, but until then it’s unplayable to me and I am leaving this 1 star up to let people know so you don’t waste your money. I believe in you Square Enix!

This game is a huge improvement on everything, not just better graphics. It has new in game features, new soundtrack and improved original soundtrack, lots of redesigned menus and windows, and many other things. Quality and shipping from Amazon was great.

The only reason I gave it 1 star is due to the following bugs the game has (affects both X and X-2):

    1. The RNG is not working. Most of the time if you reload after losing the enemies will appear in the same order, at the same steps, same attacks, same damage dealt and even same item drops. This makes the game unplayable because not only it becomes predictable and boring, the game sometimes requires you to reload to get rare items dropped by enemies which you wont get because they will just keep dropping the same thing.

    2. After every battle the song playing restarts. So there’s a new awesome soundtrack we only get to hear the first 10 seconds.

I will be raising my review to 5 stars once Square Enix releases a patch to fix these issues, meanwhile I’ll leave it like this to raise awareness. I already sent many email to them but they won’t respond.

    UPDATE:
Both the RNG and the music has been fixed in the recent 1.01 update!!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
Now go ahead and buy, this is a masterpiece worth every penny.

X/X-2 are great games, but be warned that the PS4 port has some bugs that weren’t present in last years PS3 release. The RNG that determines random encounters is busted and, as a result, the same battles will play out during each playthrough, with the same loot drops and other supposedly ramdom elements. Reset the game multiple times in order to confirm this. Also, the music no longer continues from where it left off after battle, instead restarting the loop. It does look better but for the definitive FFX experience, play it on PS3. Or wait for SE to patch it.
