My family is not a huge fan of Barbie toys. They don’t seem to offer much to foster imagination and have only one way to play with them. However, when I received this playset to share with my daughters ages 3 and 5, I was surprised to see how many ways they were able to play with the toys. Of course, they at first set it up as shown, with Barbie riding the bike and the puppies on the skateboards alongside. Then they experimented with switching the dogs to the other side of the bike and figured out how that worked so everyone was still moving forward. After that, they took everything separately and involved the dogs in playing with their other toy animals and Barbie holding them all on her lap while the bike was parked out in the (pretend) rain. I was thrilled to hear the stories they came up with and would recommend this toy to fans of Barbie, bikes, animals, dogs, and imaginative play.
I was also impressed that they did not break the bike or skateboards, but they were old enough to be careful. A less careful child may break the bike. The other parts of the toy were much more durable. I received this item for free.

This is one of the more interesting Barbies. Once you take it out of the package(as usual, it is not very easy to remove from the package as is the case with most Barbies; it is the job for an adult) there is very little to assemble, just place Barbie on her seat(she snaps into a waist restraint), snap her feet onto the pedals, snap her hands onto the handlebars, put her helmet on, attach the sidecar, attach the puppy sidecar, and finally, snap the dog and puppy into place. The puppy sidecar actually runs around the dog sidecar(there is a gear mechanism that does that) and it is fun to see! As you push Barbie, the rear wheel actually has a sprocket and a bicycle “chain”(actually, a two inch O-ring) links the rear sprocket to the front sprocket which moves the pedals, just like a real bicycle. You have to make sure that Barbie is positioned so her legs move freely. It works very well! The sidecars work best on a smooth surface, not a rug. If you detach the sidecars, it can be used on a rug. After a while, it might get a bit boring, but this set really looks good just sitting in a display. The recommended age range is from 3 to 10, but I disagree. This is too complicated for a three year old to use without the help of an older child or adult. Unboxing it also requires some maturity. There are small parts that could be a choking hazard. And since when is there an upper limit on the age of someone who appreciates Barbie? I would suggest ages six and up. By the way, Barbie’s legs and hips are fully articulated(which is why she can’t stand), her arms move from the shoulders and her head has a full range of motion.

Barbie is Back in the best way!, October 7, 2015

I am pleased that this product was both easy to put together AND actually worked. I was a little nervous when putting on the smaller puppy, because the attachment seemed slightly loose, but once it was in place, I was amazed that as you push Barbie on the bike, the small puppy actually circles the larger dog on the skate board. It is cute, even though it isn’t exactly realistic, and since it actually works, I have to say that I am pleased over all. But, I will say that the bike could have been a bit cuter, which may just be because we also have the Anna and Elsa bike and that one seem so have a bit more detail. Barbie is very cute though, I love her newer, less overly made-up face, and her hair is very soft. The dogs are what my daughter seems to like most though and thought they were the best part. I think the bigger dog could be a bit larger, but it is very cute, and Barbie is a much more approachable product over all this year since she her appearance is much more tasteful! We did receive this toy as part of a Mattel Review but I would buy it in a heart beat! I love that Barbie isn’t in all pink, including her bike, and that all of the features really work and don’t fall apart easily. Barbie is really making a great comeback this year!
